29-year-old man dies following a two-vehicle collision

A 29-year-old man from Prince-Edward-Island has died following a two-vehicle collision in Cherry Valley, PEI.

On April 8, 2022, at approximately 10:45 a.m., members of the Kings District RCMP, Island EMS, Vernon River Fire Department, Cross Roads Fire Department, Department of Highway Safety as well as the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Route 1 between a car and a tractor-trailer. A 29-year-old man, who was the sole occupant of the car, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The driver and sole occupant of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The collision is believed to have occurred when the driver of the car travelling eastbound crossed the centerline, colliding with the tractor-trailer travelling westbound.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist and a member of the PEI Coroner's office attended the scene and are assisting with the ongoing investigation. Route 1 was closed for approximately eight hours on April 8 and was re-opened at approximately 7 p.m. The road was closed at 7 a.m. on April 9 and a detour is in place via Millview Road.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
