Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

News release

Yellowknife RCMP have laid charges in relation to a Break and Enter that occurred at a local hotel.

On September 28, Yellowknife RCMP responded to a call regarding an alleged Break and Enter in a hotel. A nursing station situated within the hotel had been breached and among the items that were missing were vials of COVID-19 vaccine.

Yellowknife RCMP General Investigation Section took lead on the investigation, with the assistance of Yellowknife RCMP and other units including NT RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Police Dog Services.

The investigation led to the arrest of a man on October 12, 2021, by Yellowknife RCMP.

Jeremy Kuneyuna, 27 years old, of Yellowknife has been charged with Break and Enter / Theft in relation to the September 28 incident and for an additional, non-related, Break and Enter that occurred on September 21, 2021. Mr Kuneyuna was remanded and was scheduled to appear in court on October 15, 2021.

The missing vaccine has not been located at this time. The investigation, at this point, indicates that this was not a targeted Break and Enter specific to the vaccine. The public is not considered to be at risk at this time.
