Yellowknife RCMP chase down suspect in alleged robbery

Yellowknife RCMP arrested one male in relation to an alleged robbery at a convenience / gas station.

At approximately 4:17 AM, on February 28, Yellowknife RCMP received a call regarding an alleged armed robbery at a convenience / gas station at the corner of Forrest drive and Franklin Ave. A weapon was allegedly used in the event, however there were no injuries.

Multiple RCMP attended the scene, and began an investigation. NT RCMP Police Dog Service began a search for the suspect. NT RCMP Forensic Identification Services also assisted.

A suspect was identified with a clothing description, and officer's observed a person in close proximity enter a taxi cab. RCMP approached the taxi and the man exited the taxi and fled on foot. Officers pursued the man on foot and patrolled the area in an effort to arrest the suspect. The man was finally apprehended in the area of Franklin Avenue and Matonabee.

Chad Loutitt (29) of Yellowknife has been charged with:

  • Robbery – with Other Offensive Weapon s.344(b) CC
  • Mischief over $5000 – Damage to property s.430(4)
  • Other theft under $5000 s.334(b)
  • Disguised with intent to commit offence s.351(2)
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose s.88
  • Resists/obstructs peace officer s.129(a)
  • Possession – Schedule 1: Cocaine CDSA 4(3)
  • Fail to comply with release order conditions s.145(3)

Mr. Loutitt will appear in court in Yellowknife on April 7, 2021.
