Yellowknife RCMP charge four persons in relation to assault, including a weapon and drugs

Yellowknife RCMP and General Investigations Section (GIS) has charged four persons with assault, weapons and drug related charges.

On Thursday, November 4, Yellowknife RCMP began an investigation into a report of an alleged assault. The General Investigations Section (GIS) engaged in the investigation into allegations of Assault with a Weapon, and Assault Causing Bodily Harm. As a result, three (3) men and one (1) woman were arrested. As part of the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for a residence. The search led to the seizure of what is believed to be crack cocaine, a loaded firearm (handgun), machetes, and cash, along with other evidence.

All four face charges of Assault with a weapon and Assault causing bodily harm. In total, 28 charges, including various firearms and drug charges and resist arrest have been laid against them.

Charged are:

  • Yahya Abdullahi – Male, 18 years old from Edmonton, 13 charges
  • Abdulrasaq Yousif – Male, 18 years old from Emdonton, 5 charges
  • Akok Aken – Male, 20 years old from Edmonton, 5 charges
  • Dawn Gosselin – Female, 31 years old from Yellowknife, 5 charges

"Yellowknife RCMP and the GIS unit continue to investigate serious crimes. Taking drugs and weapons off our streets reduces the harm to our citizens. This incident once again led to seizure of suspected illicit drugs, let's report suspicious activity to RCMP so we can reduce the harm and hold people accountable" states Sgt Curtis Kuchta, Yellowknife RCMP GIS.
