Wood Buffalo Integrated Traffic Unit arrests for firearm and drugs

On Aug. 18, 2021, at approximately 4:05 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP were called to assist an Alberta Sheriff. A reportedly stolen pick-up truck and trailer fled from the Integrated Traffic Unit during a traffic stop on Highway 63, approximately 10 kms north of Fort McMurray.

The suspect vehicle was located abandoned approximately 16 kms north of Fort McMurray. The male passenger of the vehicle was located and arrested in the area, while the male driver had fled on foot. Wood Buffalo RCMP Police Dog Services was engaged and located the suspect, who was subsequently arrested.

A 37-year-old male of Edmonton Alta. is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 x 2
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited
  • Flight from police officer
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Unsafe storage of firearms
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Explosives possession without lawful excuse x 2
  • Resist/obstruct police officer
  • Possession of suspected Methamphetamine

A 41-year-old male of Edmonton, Alta. is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000 x 2
  • Unsafe storage of firearms
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of suspected Methamphetamine
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Explosives possession without lawful excuse x 2

Both were held in police custody and released after judicial hearings. Both are scheduled to appear for court in Fort McMurray on Sept 8, 2021.
