A second degree murder charge laid against 26-year-old Manasse Bennett in relation to the death of a fifty-year-old man in Nain on July 30, 2021, is being upgraded to first degree murder.
Further investigation by the RCMP Major Crimes Unit in Corner Brook has led police to the change in the murder charge against Bennett. In addition to first degree murder, he is charged with two additional counts of assault causing bodily harm that occurred that same day against two other residents in the community.
The next court appearance for Bennett, who was remanded into custody, is set for September 1, 2021.
