Two people fined for violating Health Protection Act

Halifax District RCMP have charged a man and a woman for violating the Health Protection Act.

At 3 p.m. on April 20, police were notified of a man not following self-isolation guidelines at a home in Porters Lake. The man had returned from outside of the Atlantic provinces and was not at the home when police attended. Police returned later that day and charged the man under 71(b) of the Health Protection Act for Failure to Remain in Self-Quarantine or Self-Isolation for 14 Days.

At 1 p.m. on April 21, members returned to the same home in Porters Lake, after receiving a report that a person was not self-isolating after a cohabitant had returned from outside the Atlantic provinces. Police attended and charged a woman under 71(b) of the Health Protection Act for Failure to Remain in Self-Quarantine or Self-Isolation for 14 Days. Both the woman and her cohabitant were fined $1,000.

The RCMP is reminding everyone to follow all public health orders, provincial legislation and municipal bylaws. We all need to do our part to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
