Traffic stops lead to two arrested for being more then twice over the limit

Halifax District RCMP arrested two impaired drivers on April 14 who provided samples more then twice the legal limit during traffic stops.

At 10:25 a.m., a Halifax District RCMP member on patrol in Eastern Passage stopped a vehicle on Cow Bay Rd. The driver was arrested after showing signs of impairment and was transported to Cole Harbour Detachment. The driver provided breath samples that were more then three times the legal limit. The driver, a 39-year-old man from Cole Harbour, was later released and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on May 26 at 9:30 a.m. to face charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Impaired Operation of a Conveyance with a Blood Alcohol Concentration that is equal to or exceeds 80 m%.

A short time later, at 12:40 p.m., a Halifax District RCMP member stopped a vehicle on Hammonds Plains Rd. in Upper Tantallon. The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested. He was taken to the Tantallon RCMP Detachment to provide further breath samples, which were more than twice the legal limit. The driver, a 48-year-old man from Hammonds Plains, was later released and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on May 26 at 9:30 a.m. He is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Impaired Operation of a Conveyance with a Blood Alcohol Concentration that is equal to or exceeds 80 mg%.

The RCMP wishes to remind Nova Scotians that driving impaired increases the risk of death and serious injury to yourself and others. We all have a responsibility to drive safely. Always drive sober and call 911 if you believe someone is driving impaired or is otherwise an immediate threat to public safety. Include as many details as possible, such as the location, direction of travel, vehicle description and license plate number.
