Telephone Fraud Scam

The Dawson City RCMP have received multiple complaints from citizens reporting that they have received suspicious phone calls. These phone calls have included people posing to be from Publisher Clearing House, financial Institutions, and credit card companies.

The calls where people are pretending to be from Publisher Clearing House included asking callers to pay a small fee to receive a large prize and to verify their identity over the phone. These calls are frauds and not legitimate transactions.

The calls from people pretending to be associated to a financial institutions, including credit card companies, are asking people to press a button to confirm suspicious transactions on their account and to provide information about their banking / credit card transactions. These calls are also frauds and not legitimate transactions.

If you ever receive a similar phone call to the above, simply hang up your phone and contact your financial institution to verify your account information. Please do not provide any banking or personal information if you receive a phone call or e-mail such as there and report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC).
