Suspicious person in Brigus South driving a stolen vehicle is arrested by Ferryland RCMP

A 32-year-old St. John's man who was operating a stolen vehicle was arrested by RCMP in Ferryland on March 10, 2021, after reports of suspicious activities in Brigus South.

At approximately 10:15 p.m. on March 9, police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the town and were provided a licence plate number. A man was seen trespassing on a private residential property. He was confronted, got in his vehicle and departed the area.

The vehicle was located by Ferryland RCMP, just after midnight, on Route 10 near Capahayden. The officer checked the licence plate and determined that the vehicle was stolen from St. John's. The driver, who was no longer in the vehicle, had departed on foot prior to police arrival after running out of gas. He was located a short distance away and was arrested.

He was transported to the detachment and was later released. He is scheduled to attend court in May of 2021.

The vehicle was seized and the investigation is continuing.

A number of reports were received on the morning of March 10, by residents in Brigus South who discovered their vehicles were entered and items stolen overnight. If there are others whose vehicles were entered between March 9-10 in Brigus South, please contact Ferryland RCMP at 709-432-2440 to make a report.
