Springdale RCMP responds to report of impaired driver; man arrested for impaired driving with children on board

A 35-year-old man, who was driving with two children in the vehicle, was arrested by Springdale RCMP for impaired driving following reports of a suspected impaired driver on July 29, 2021.

At approximately 5:40 p.m., police received a report of a truck that was traveling all over the roadway on the Trans-Canada Highway near Baie Verte Junction. While responding, officers received another report of a suspected impaired driver from a separate motorist advising that a similar truck was now pulled over on the side of the highway near Sheppardville. Police arrived minutes later and conducted a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested for impaired driving. He was transported to the detachment for breath testing and provide breath samples that were two and a half times the legal limit. The children were transported to the detachment and the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development were contacted to assess the situation. Family members were contacted and are now caring for the children.

The man's licence was suspended and the truck was seized and impounded. He was released from custody and is set to attend court at a later date to face charges of impaired driving.
