Roddickton RCMP responds to overdue snowmobiler, man located safe and sound

A 72-year-old man was located safely after he spent a night in the woods on March 19, 2021.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., on Friday, Roddickton RCMP received a report of an overdue snowmobiler, who departed Roddickton area the evening before to make a one-hour snowmobile trip and failed to arrive at his home in Conche.

Roddickton RCMP engaged a team of searchers from Long Range Search and Rescue who used snowmobiles to assist with the search. Government Air Services was contacted for an aerial search but adverse weather conditions prevented them from participating in the search. The Joint Rescue Coordination Center was contacted and conducted an aerial search using a helicopter out of Gander.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., the man was located approximately seven kilometers outside of Conche by members of the Long Range Search and Rescue and was reported to be in good health. His snowmobile was stuck and he was unable to free it.
