RCMP Traffic Services West conducts traffic enforcement near Rocky Harbour with multiple partners on June 2, 2021.

RCMP Traffic Services West teamed up with a number of partners on June 2, 2021, and conducted traffic enforcement checking approximately 130 vehicles.

Highway Inspectors from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, Park Wardens with Gros Morne National Park, and officers from Rocky Harbour Detachment joined with RCMP Traffic Services West. Two separate traffic enforcement initiatives were conducted near Rocky Harbour, both aimed at highway safety. The first initiative consisted of a checkpoint on Route 430 in Rocky Harbour where motorists were checked for licence, registration and insurance and vehicles were checked for equipment and safety compliance. The second initiative was a speed detection operation that was conducted south of Rocky Harbour.

Two commercial vehicles were removed from the road after failing a roadside inspection and the following tickets were issued:

  • Speeding violations - 15
  • Tinted windows - 2
  • Improper passing - 1

The driver of a pickup truck was issued a notice for a vehicle inspection due to a lift kit, oversized tires, and other deficiencies.

RCMP Traffic Services West advises motorists to expect similar enforcement initiatives throughout the summer months.

RCMP NL continues to fulfill its mandate to protect public safety, enforce the law, and ensure the delivery of priority policing services in Newfoundland and Labrador.
