On August 15, 2021, RCMP Traffic Services West conducted traffic enforcement on the Northern Peninsula. Multiple tickets were issued and two vehicles seized for various offences.

At approximately 9:50 a.m., police were on patrol in Rocky Harbour when they observed a driver not wearing a seat belt. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 57-year-old Norris Point man, was found to be suspended from driving. He was issued tickets and his vehicle was impounded.

Later on the same day, police were on patrol in St. Paul's on Route 430 and observed an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) being operated on the side of the highway. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 43-year-old St. Paul's man, was found to be impaired, arrested and transported to the Rocky Harbour Detachment where he provided breath samples that were twice the legal limit. His licence was suspended and the ATV was seized and impounded. He was released to appear in court at a later date.

Traffic Services West also issued two commercial vehicles with inspection notices to comply with official inspection regulations. Other motorists were issued 12 tickets for various violations, six of them were for speeding and four of them were for not wearing a seatbelt!

RCMP Traffic Services West continues enforcement of the Highway Traffic Act, Motorized Snow Vehicles and All-Terrain Vehicles Acts and the Canada Criminal Code and warns motorists of the dangers they place themselves and others in while driving in a dangerous manner.
