RCMP Traffic Services East seizes SUV for excessive speeds of 183 kms/hr on the TCH near Ocean Pond on August 4, 2021.

RCMP Traffic Services East ticketed an aggressive driver for excessive speeding near Ocean Pond on the Tran-Canada Highway (TCH) and impounded the vehicle on August 4, 2021.

RCMP Traffic Services East responded to a complaint from an off-duty police officer who was traveling on the TCH and observed a white Dodge Durango SUV passing his vehicle at a very high rate of speed, weaving in traffic and nearly causing a collision on the TCH near Holyrood.

Police located the described vehicle traveling on the TCH near Ocean Pond, activated the radar and obtained a speed of 183 km/hour.

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 23-year old St. John's man, was given a $520 fine for excessive speeding and his driver's license was suspended.

RCMP NL is committed to maintaining public safety on our roadways and this type of driving behavior will not be tolerated.
