RCMP Traffic Services Labrador seized and impounded this vehicle as part of a drug-impaired driving investigation on July 22, 2021.

A 21-year-old man's driver's licence was suspended and the vehicle he was operating was seized and impounded following a traffic stop by RCMP Traffic Services Labrador in L'Anse-au-Loup on July 22, 2021.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, police conducted a traffic stop on Country Road. The driver showed signs of impairment consistent with that of alcohol and cannabis. A roadside breath test showed that the man had alcohol in his system, which is in contravention of the Highway Traffic Act in NL. Motorists under the age of 22 years are not permitted to have any amount of alcohol in their systems while driving. The man also tested positive for recent cannabis consumption on roadside drug screening equipment and was arrested for impaired driving. He was transported to the Labrador Straits Clinic where further testing was completed for the purpose of an impaired driving investigation. Officers await the results of the testing to determine if charges of drug-impaired driving are appropriate.

The driver was released from custody, was issued a seven-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

The investigation is continuing.
