RCMP Major Crimes Unit lay charges in Elk Point in homicide

On Dec. 26, 2020 at 3:58 p.m., the Elk Point RCMP responded to a report of a deceased female, located outside on the Frog Lake First Nation. An investigation was launched into the timeline of her activities. Eastern Alberta District General Investigation Section and Crime Reduction Unit supported the early investigation, gathering witness statements. Information gleaned led to the deployment of the RCMP's Major Crimes Unit.

MCU took carriage of the investigation on Dec. 28. Several interviews were conducted and multiple scenes were examined. An autopsy was conducted.

On Dec. 30, Trevor Moyah was arrested with the assistance of EAD CRU and Elk Point Detachment

On Dec. 31 charges of manslaughter and assault causing bodily harm were laid against Trevor Moyah (23) of Frog Lake First Nation in the death of Louanne Martha Cardinal (29) of Saddle Lake First Nation.

Moyah remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Jan. 7, 2021.
