RCMP investigates collision

April 1, 2021
Sutherland Lake, Nova Scotia

News release

Cumberland County District RCMP is investigating after a motor vehicle collision on Highway 104 involving an RCMP car.

At approximately 11:10 a.m. yesterday morning, a member of Northwest RCMP Traffic Services was conducting a traffic stop on the 104 Highway near Sutherland Lake, when the member's police car was struck from behind by a transport truck. The RCMP member was taken to hospital as a precaution and was later released with minor injuries. The driver of the transport truck was uninjured. The vehicle that had been pulled over by the RCMP member was not involved in the collision.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene, and one of the westbound lanes on Highway 104 was closed for most of the afternoon.

While the investigation related to the cause of the collision is still ongoing, the RCMP would like to remind motorists that the law requires you to move over and slow down when approaching stopped emergency vehicles on the road. This helps emergency workers get home safe to their families.
