News release

On June 5, 2021, at approximately 12:15 p.m. members of the Cold Lake RCMP Detachment were dispatched to locate a missing 17-year-old youth, Aaron THIR, who had been swept away while swimming in the Beaver River.

Members of the Cold Lake Detachment, Cold Lake Fire and Rescue Services along with EMS attended, and emergency personnel searched the banks of the Beaver River. Civilian Search and Rescue resources were called to assist, along with the Canadian Armed Forces Search and Rescue (SAR), which has provided a helicopter and crew. The search continued throughout the day on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

Dense brush and lack of trails have made the ground search difficult. Swift currents within the river, logs, and rocks in the water made the water treacherous for the searchers.

Cold Lake SAR are being joined by Lloydminster Search and Rescue, and other resources are being sought to continue the search.
