RCMP charge two men after break-in in Springhill

Cumberland County District RCMP has charged two men in a break-in on South St. in Springhill.

On August 18, at approximately 6:35 a.m., Cumberland County District RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of a break-in at an abandoned house on South St. in Springhill. Police responded and learned that two men were still believed to be inside the house.

As police arrived and began to surround the house, two men were seen fleeing from the back of the house into the woods. Police began searching the wooded area and located one man. The man was arrested without incident and transported to the Amherst RCMP Detachment.

Police continued to search for the second man and at approximately 11:30 a.m., the second man was located at the corner of Main St. and Mechanic St. in Springhill by the Cumberland Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU). The man was arrested without incident and transported to the Amherst RCMP Detachment.

Jordan Ruddick, 27, of Springhill, has been charged with:

  • Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling-House – Section 349(1) CC;
  • Failure to Comply with a Release Order – Section 145(5)(a) CC x2.

Ryan Hartley, 37, of Murray Corner, New Brunswick, has been charged with:

  • Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling-House – Section 349(1) CC;
  • Failure to Comply with a Release Order – Section 145(5)(a) CC.

Ruddick was remanded into custody and appeared in Amherst Provincial Court on August 20, where he was released on conditions by a Judge. Ruddick will next appear in court on August 26, 2021.

Hartley was remanded into custody and will next appear in Amherst Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. today.
