On August 24, RCMP and RNC Traffic Services teamed up on the Trans-Canada Highway near Butter Pot Park and issued 140 speeding tickets.

The operation, which started in the early morning hours, utilized a laser speed detection device. The average speed of violators was nearly 140 km/h and officers were kept quite busy pulling over vehicle after vehicle throughout the day.

Two drivers were stopped for travelling more than 160 km/h. They both received driver's licence suspensions and their vehicles were seized and impounded.

Seventeen people have died in motor vehicle collisions within RCMP NL jurisdiction so far in 2021. Impaired driving, lack of seat belt use, distracted driving and aggressive driving continue to present as factors in these fatal collisions.

RCMP and RNC Traffic Services continues to work together towards road safety. Motorists can expect to see enforcement efforts along the TCH and in various locations throughout the province.
