On June 21, 2021, at approximately 12:15 am, Powerview RCMP responded to a house fire on Highway 11, on Sagkeeng First Nation.
Upon arrival the house was fully engulfed with flames. Two males aged 19 and 25, who were inside when the fire started, managed to get out of the residence safely.
The subsequent investigation led officers to arrest a 44-year-old male, who was at the scene.
Quinton Courchene, 44, has been charged with Arson-Disregard for Human Life x2 and Arson x2.
He was remanded into custody.
Powerview RCMP along with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, continue to investigate.
