Portage la Prairie RCMP respond to fatal collision

On July 22, 2021, at approximately 7:30 pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision in the eastbound lane of the Trans-Canada Highway at Provincial Road 242. When officers arrived on scene, a semi-trailer and a minivan were in the eastbound lanes and Emergency Medical Services personnel were attending to the people on scene.

Initial investigation has determined that the minivan was travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes when it struck the semi-trailer head on. The 27-year-old male driver and lone occupant of the minivan, from Portage, was pronounced deceased on scene.

The 51-year-old male driver and lone occupant of the semi, from Brandon, sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

A RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
