Police seize loaded handgun following single-vehicle crash

A 28-year-old man from Middle Hainsville, N.B., has been charged following a single-vehicle crash in Florenceville-Bristol.

On August 2, 2021, while patrolling the area, a member of the Western Valley Region RCMP located a vehicle in a field off Route 130. The vehicle appeared to have rolled over and nobody was inside.

A short time later, police located a man walking near the intersection of Station Road and Main Street and detained him in connection with the crash. While searching the individual, police found a loaded handgun by his waistband. A brief struggle ensued but police were able to arrest the man and seized the firearm. Nobody was injured during the incident. Police later learned that the vehicle was stolen.

On August 3, Chance Arthur Leslie appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court and was charged with possession of a firearm contrary to order. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on August 5.

The investigation is ongoing.
