Missing man in St. Mary’s safely located over the May 24 weekend; RCMP NL thanks those who assisted in the search

A 67-year-old man who was reported missing in St. Mary's over the May 24th holiday weekend was safely located during an extensive search involving numerous search and rescue partners.

On May 23, 2021, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Holyrood RCMP received the report of a man who was overdue from a fishing trip. The man's vehicle was located, parked on the side of Route 90 north of the community of Riverhead, but he was nowhere in sight.

A number of partners assisted with the search for the man, including Central Avalon and the Rovers Ground Search and Rescue Teams, the Riverhead Fire Department, Provincial Government Air Services, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre. The Salvation Army attended the area and provided searchers with food and beverages.

The man, who was lost, was safely located at approximately 1:45 p.m. on May 24 by firefighters with the Riverhead Fire Department.

RCMP NL values the great partnerships that exist with search and rescue personnel across the province and thanks everyone who assisted in this search.
