Missing hikers located on Skyline Trail

March 23, 2021
Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Nova Scotia

News release

Inverness District RCMP rescued a pair of youth after they became lost while hiking the Skyline Trail.

On March 21, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Cheticamp RCMP Detachment received a report that two 17-year-old hikers were lost after going off the travelled portion of the Skyline Trail. Members were able to deploy two snowmobiles and reach the hikers, who were approximately 500 meters from the trail. The young man and young woman were transported back to their car around 6 p.m. and did not require medical attention.

Police would like to remind hikers to plan ahead and research the area before heading out on the trails. Ensure that you are prepared with the proper survival kit and first aid supplies in the event of an emergency or poor weather. Pre-plan your route and advise someone of your plans; this is particularly important in areas where communication via cell phone and radio is limited.
