Inspector Barry Larocque

Inspector Barry LaRocque is the newly appointed Office in Charge of the NT RCMP South District.

Inspector LaRocque has 28 years of service with the RCMP, mostly in Alberta. Insp LaRocque was sworn into the RCMP in October 1992 while living in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Following recruit training he started his general duty policing career in Cold Lake, Alberta. From December 1998 to December 2011 Insp. LaRocque was posted to different plain clothes investigation sections within Alberta. He worked on drug enforcement sections, criminal intelligence sections and in national security sections. Insp LaRocque was a crisis negotiator who worked with various Emergency Response Teams to resolve many high-risk calls for service through negotiations. From December 2011 to January 2017 Insp LaRocque moved back to general duty uniform duties in Blackfalds, Alberta and then as a Detachment Commander in Elk Point, Alberta. In January 2017, he managed the Alberta RCMP Strategic Communications Unit. From September 2017 to May 2019 Insp LaRocque led the development of the Alberta RCMP Call Back Unit, which managed calls for service that did not require immediate police attendance and freed up general duty members to deal with other more complex calls for service. In June 2019 Insp LaRocque was commissioned and transferred to Yellowknife to be the Liaison between the GNWT Department of Justice and the RCMP.

In Insp LaRocque's management style he promotes sound decision making, good quality investigations and attention to detail. Insp Larocque is committed to incorporating acts of reconciliation into the policing service within our communities. Insp LaRocque also promotes community involvement by RCMP members with a goal of building healthier and safer communities for all people to live in.

"During my time as the OIC of South District I want to promote community policing as much as possible. Our members are involved in the communities they live in and police. From coaching to assisting elders, to feasts, it's all about good relationships with our citizens" states Inspector Larocque.
