For the month of May 2021, there was an overall increase of 20% (16,427 to 19,647) in the number of Calls for Service in RCMP jurisdiction as compared to May 2020.
All three districts saw an increase in Calls for Service:
East District: 10% (7,211 to 7,936)
North District: 35% (4,803 to 6, 476)
West District: 19% (4,413 to 5,235)
The overall increase is more reflective of occurrences during this period of time and likely attributed to the pandemic restrictions that were in place last May.

Manitoba East District
During May 2021, Manitoba East District reported decreases in all occurrence groups, except Crimes against Property. The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:
Common Police Activities
There was a very minimal increase of 1% (852 to 862) in occurrences captured under the Common Police Activities violation group, with increases in Assistance to General Public, up by 14% (149 to 170) and Wellbeing Checks also up by 13% (90 to 102).
Crimes Against the Person
There was an overall decrease of 16% (477 to 401) in this category, with the largest decrease in Forcible Confinement, down by 43% (7 to 4) while Pointing a Firearm increased by 233% (3 to 10).
Crimes Against Property
There was an overall increase of 4% (794 to 825) in this violation group, with increases coming from Break and Enters, up by 15% (80 to 92) and Theft Under $5000 up by 32% (131 to 173).
However, Theft Over $5000 decreased by 2% (81 to 79) occurrences.
Manitoba West District
During May 2021, Manitoba West District reported decreases in all categories, with the exception of Crimes against the Person. The following increases and decreases are being highlighted:
Common Police Activities
A decrease of 9% (659 to 602) was seen overall, with the largest decreases shown in Persons Reported Missing down 14% (72 to 62) and Breach of Peace down 19% (167 to 136). A notable increase in this violation group though, was seen in Wellbeing Checks which increased by 32% (from 66 to 87).
Crimes Against the Person
This category saw an overall increase of 7% (322 to 346), however the sub-category Assaults decreased by 22% (231 to 181), with the largest decreases in Assault with Weapon or Causing Bodily Harm (61 to 44) and Common Assault down (148 to 104).
Robbery/Extortion/Harassment/Threats saw an increase of 83% (66 to 121), mainly driven by Harassing Communications (10 to 17) and Uttering threats against a person (44 to 95). Sexual Offences increased overall by 85% (20 to 37).
Crimes Against Property
There was an over overall decrease of 3% (594 to 577) in this violation group. But Break and Enter decreased by 7% (75 to 70) as well as Theft over $5,000, which decreased by 14% (44 to 38).
Theft under $5,000 decreased by 3% (135 to 131).
Manitoba North District
The following increases and decreases are being highlighted for Manitoba North District for May 2021:
Common Police Activities
While seeing an overall decrease of 3% (1024 to 996) in this violation group, there was an increase in Persons Reported Missing (170 to 176, up by 4%), the first increase since the pandemic while the largest increase was seen in Wellbeing Checks up 60% (82 to 131).
Crimes Against the Person
There was an overall increase of 5% (776 to 815) in the Assault category. Robbery/Extortion/Harassment/Threats increased by 51% (83 to 125) – mainly driven by Harassing Communications and Uttering threats against a person. And lastly, Sexual Offences decreased 17% (53 to 44).
Crimes Against Property
There was an overall increase of 6% (870 to 922) in Crimes Against Property group, most notably, Break and Enters increased by 28% (58 to 74); with B&E – Business increasing 38% (6 to 8) and B&E - Residence increasing by 83% (30 to 55).
Finally, Theft under $5,000 increased by 38% (64 to 88) – mainly driven by Shoplifting up by 120% (10 to 22).
