Colchester County RCMP have apprehended a man who is facing multiple charges after a home invasion in West New Annan yesterday.
Police were called to a home on Hwy. 246 at 6:05 a.m. after a resident woke up to a noise in his home. When the homeowner went downstairs, he was confronted by a man with a weapon. The owner told the man to leave and returned upstairs. Shortly after, a neighbour received a knock on the door from the same man asking for help with his vehicle that was off the road nearby. They were unable to get the vehicle running. The homeowner then learned from the man that he broke into his neighbour's home earlier. As the man began walking down the road, the homeowner went to check on his neighbour and called police.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., RCMP located the suspect walking on Hwy. 4 near Wentworth after he was seen hitchhiking. Upon arrival the man posed as if he may have a firearm. The man did not comply with police direction and seemed to want the officer to shoot him. He then ran into densely wooded area that was at the edge of the roadway and returned minutes later to the roadway near the police car. The suspect was able to take the police car and dragged the officer about 10 feet before the officer was thrown onto the road. The officer was given another vehicle by a motorist who came upon this scene to go after the suspect who fled and located him after the suspect crashed into another vehicle approximately 5 kilometers away near Wentworth Valley. He was arrested and taken into custody. The police officer received minor injuries and was released from hospital the same day. There were no other injuries.
Andrew Genner Pike, 29, of Stellarton, is scheduled to appear in Truro Provincial Court on August 3 at 9:30 a.m. He is facing the following charges:
- Aggravated Assault
- Resist\Obstruct Peace Officer
- Motor Vehicle Theft
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Breaking and Entering
- Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling House
- Mischief over $5000
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime less than $5000
- Fail to Comply with Release Order Condition x 3
- Being Unlawfully at Large
