Man charged with second-degree murder

A 48-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a man in Campbellton, N.B.

On July 27, 2021, shortly before 6:40 a.m., police received a report of an individual lying on the ground next to a home on Tingley Crescent in Campbellton. When police arrived on the scene, they found the body of a man. He has been identified as 38-year-old Serge Chamberlain of Campbellton.

Later the same morning, around 7:50 a.m., police located a second man in the parking lot of Sugarloaf Senior High School. He was taken into custody.

On July 28, 2021, 48-year-old Ronald Savoy of Campbellton, appeared in Campbellton Provincial Court and was charged with second degree murder. He was remanded in custody, and is scheduled to return to court on August 4, 2021.

The New Brunswick RCMP Major Crime Unit attended the scenes, along with RCMP Forensic Identification Services, Police Dog Services, and members of the Campbellton RCMP detachment.

The investigation is continuing.
