Man charged following firearm incident

A 32-year-old man from Edmundston, N.B. has been charged following a firearm incident in Saint-Joseph-de-Madawaska.

On October 17, 2021, shortly after 10:30 a.m., the Saint-Léonard RCMP were notified that an individual had been shot while hunting in a wooded area. The 67-year-old man was treated for non-life threatening injuries and later released from hospital.

Later the same day, police arrested a 32-year-old man from Edmundston as part of the investigation.

On October 18, Yannick Godin-Gallant appeared in Edmundston Provincial Court by way of tele-remand and was charged with one count of discharging a firearm with intent.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on October 21 for a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.
