The man at the centre of an extensive police search in northwestern New Brunswick has been arrested in Fredericton, along with two other people. Meanwhile, a second man has been charged in connection with a shooting incident involving police.

On June 11, 2021, around 7:05 p.m., members of the West District RCMP responded to a complaint in Medford, north of Tobique Narrows. Police received information that a man had pointed a firearm towards at least one person, and had discharged the firearm in the presence of several people, including a young child. The man fled the scene in a vehicle toward Perth-Andover.

Around 8:05 p.m., police attempted to stop the suspect vehicle on Route 105 in Tobique Narrows. A firearm was discharged at police, and a police vehicle was struck by bullets. The vehicle fled the scene on a nearby road in a wooded area.

Based on the information known at the time of both incidents, an Alert Ready message was issued to the area to advise the public that police were searching for one man believed to be armed and dangerous.

On June 12, the vehicle was located in a ditch along Route 109 in the Tobique Narrows area while police were searching for the main suspect in both shootings. A 21-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene. Through information gathered during the course of the investigation, police learned there were two people in the vehicle when the firearm was discharged at police.

On June 13, 21-year-old McKenzie Moir of Bloomfield Ridge appeared in court via tele-remand and was charged with one count of discharging a firearm with intent. He was remanded in custody pending an appearance in Woodstock Provincial Court on June 14 at 10 a.m.

On June 13, shortly after 4 p.m., the man was arrested in the Devon neighbourhood by Fredericton Police Force, in conjunction with the New Brunswick RCMP. A man and a woman were also arrested at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
