Imitation firearm

On March 8, 2021, at approximately 8:20 pm, Island Lake RCMP received a report of an armed robbery at a business on Wasagamack First Nation.

A lone male with a bandana over his face entered the business carrying a firearm. He demanded cash and cigarettes from the employee and fled. Nobody was injured.

Information was received from First Nation Safety Officers and community members that they had encountered the suspect, and that he had taken off on foot. Immediately, officers contained the area. It was determined that the suspect was now inside his residence. Officers called the residence and spoke with the suspect. He was cooperative and exited the home, where he was arrested without incident.

The firearm used in the offence was recovered and determined to be an imitation firearm. The cigarettes and the bandana the suspect was wearing were also located.

Fletcher Wood, 23, of Wasagamack First Nation, has been charged with Robbery with a Firearm, Pointing a Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Mischief, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited. He was remanded into custody.

Island Lake RCMP continue to investigate.
