Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit traffic stop leads to arrest and drug seizure

On March 28, 2021, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) was conducting a curfew check at a residence in Grande Prairie when they observed a suspicious vehicle pull into the driveway, drop off a passenger and then drive away. The CRU unit conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle, and as a result of an investigation, the driver was arrested. During a search of the vehicle the following was seized:

  • Two firearms
  • Ammunition
  • 28 grams of Fentanyl
  • 7 grams of Cocaine
  • A small amount of Crystal Methamphetamine

The passenger previously observed exiting the vehicle was also arrested. During a search of the individual, officers located Canadian currency.

A 30-year-old male and a 43-year-old male both of Grande, Prairie have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking x 2.

Following judicial interim release hearings, the 30-year-old male has been released from custody to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on May 3, 2021. The 43-year-old male has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on April 7, 2021.
