Grande Prairie RCMP have arrested two individuals and seized drugs and a firearm following an early morning traffic stop.

On March 11, 2021, at approximately 1:45 a.m., the Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) was conducting patrols in the area of 101 Street and 111 Avenue when they located a suspicious vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the licence plate was not registered to the vehicle. The officers subsequently conducted a traffic stop and further determined that the vehicle was stolen out of Grande Prairie. The driver and passenger were arrested. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of the following:

  • 13 Grams of Cocaine
  • 8 Grams of Heroin
  • A loaded 22 calibre rifle

A 39-year-old male and a 23-year-old male of Grande Prairie have been charged with:

  • Possession of Stolen Property over $5000
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance x 2
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Vehicle
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of a Firearm contrary to a Prohibition Order

The 39-year-old male is also charged with two additional counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order and one count of fraud over $5000.

Following a judicial hearing the 39-year-old male was remanded into custody to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on March 15, 2021. The 23-year-old male was released from custody on a release order to appear on the same date.
