Grande Prairie drug trafficking investigation leads to arrest

In March 2021, Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, in partnership with Grande Prairie ALERT, began an investigation into possible drug trafficking in the Grande Prairie area.

On May 14, 2021, Grande Prairie RCMP CRU, with assistance from Grande Prairie ALERT and Grande Prairie Municipal officers, executed a search warrant at a residence in the area of 100 Avenue and 97 Street in Grande Prairie. During the search, several items were seized, including what is believed to be:

  • 18.96 grams of Fentanyl
  • 17.73 grams of Crack Cocaine
  • 25.54 grams of Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth)
  • 552 pills, assortment of brands, some hand pressed

RCMP also located Canadian currency, three prohibited weapons, five imitation firearms, shotgun ammunition and a stolen possession and acquisition licence (PAL).

A 29-year-old male of Grande Prairie has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking x 3
  • Traffic a controlled substance x 2
  • Possession of proceeds of crime over $5000
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5000
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon x 2
  • Breach of a court order x 2
  • A 26-year-old male of Grande Prairie has been charged with:
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5000
  • Illegal possession of government document
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon x 2

Following a judicial hearing both males have been remanded to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on May 26, 2021.
