Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP arrests man for arson, disregard for human life

Seventy-seven-year-old Jerome Power was arrested by RCMP in Grand Falls-Windsor following an investigation into an arson at a Point of Bay residence that happened on August 30, 2021.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Monday, police were called to a residential fire on Main Street. A woman inside the home escaped with minor injuries. The investigation, which was turned over to the RCMP General Investigation Section, led police to suspect that the fire had been intentionally set by Power, knowing that the home was occupied.

Power, who was also treated for minor injuries, attended court on August 31, 2021, and is charged with arson - disregard for human life and uttering threats. He was remanded into custody and attends court again on Thursday, September 2, 2021.

The investigation is continuing.
