Halifax District RCMP have charged and/or suspended fourteen drivers in eight days for impaired driving related offences during traffic stops in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Over the course of the last eight days, Halifax District RCMP charged eight men between the ages of 22 and 60 with impaired operation of a conveyance (vehicle) and issued four men and two women between the ages of 17 and 66 with seven-day suspensions for low-level alcohol impairment. The incidents occurred at all hours and in the communities of Cole Harbour, Lower Sackville and Tantallon.
"On this Saint Patrick's Day, these numbers serve as a reminder that we are out on our roads and highways to make roads safer for everyone," says Inspector Jeremie Landry, Halifax District RCMP. "On this day and always, we are reminding drivers to plan ahead and always drive sober so roads are safe for everyone."
The four major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions are impaired, aggressive and distracted driving, and incorrect seatbelt use.
Citizens are asked to call 911 immediately if you see a driver who is driving erratically or unsafely or if you believe someone is driving impaired. Include as many details as possible, such as the location, direction of travel, vehicle description and license plate number.
