Fort Providence RCMP advise missing man on Mackenzie River located deceased

Fort Providence RCMP advise the missing man has been located deceased.

On the afternoon of June 28, the GNWT Department of Environment and Natural Resources helicopter for the Forestry Management Division located the missing man. The 56 year-old man was last seen swimming at the end of the road near Winter Crossing just outside of Fort Providence, NT at approximately 7 pm, Sunday, June 27, 2021. He was located, deceased at approximately 1:30 pm June 28, approximately 5 kms south from where he was last seen.

He was transported back by boat, with assistance of ENR, and community volunteers to the care of the RCMP. RCMP are now assisting NWT Coroner Services with a Coroner's Act investigation.

The RCMP thanks all the community volunteers who assisted with June 27 search and the location of the man on June 28. Thanks as well to the GNWT ENR (Fort Providence office), the local helicopter company, and to the Forestry Management Division of ENR. The RCMP offer their condolences to the family and friends of the man.
