A youth is deceased following an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crash that happened last night in Hampden.
At approximately 8:20 p.m., Deer Lake RCMP received the report from a paramedic at the scene of the ATV crash on Elms Place in Hampden where one youth was deceased and another had minor injuries.
Police attended the scene, conducted an investigation and determined that the ATV was travelling at a high rate of speed on Main Street in Hampden, lost control and went down over an embankment onto Elms Place. The two occupants were thrown from the ATV during the collision. Both youth were wearing helmets, however the helmet of the driver was not properly secured and came off during the collision and the driver died at the scene.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is engaged. The ATV was seized and the investigation is continuing.
Three people have died during ATV crashes in areas policed by RCMP NL in 2021.
