Dawson City RCMP arrest dangerous man

On June 5, 2021 at approximately 11:30 p.m., RCMP received a report of a man chasing someone with a machete in the downtown area of Dawson City. RCMP quickly arrived on scene to find multiple victims who had been exposed to bear spray. They then observed a man holding what appeared to be a sword. The man saw the RCMP members and immediately fled on foot. After a foot chase that proceeded through the Eldorado Hotel and back outside, the man confronted members with a metal pipe. After another brief chase the man was subdued after successfully deploying a conducted energy weapon and taken into custody.

Rodney Bailey of Whitehorse was arrested and charged with 16 offences including:

  • six counts of assault with weapon
  • Assault Peace Officer
  • Uttering Threats
  • Several other weapons offences
  • Breach of Probation

Mr. Bailey was remanded into custody. His next court appearance will be in Whitehorse on June 16th.

Fortunately no serious injuries were reported beyond the victims of bear spray.
