Cross Lake RCMP investigate fatal snowmobile collision

On December 12, 2021, at approximately 5:20 am, Cross Lake RCMP responded to a snowmobile versus pedestrian collision, in Pimicikamak Cree Nation.

The initial investigation has determined that a snowmobile with two riders, collided with a pedestrian, on the Main Road in the area of New Alberts Lake, in the community.

The driver, a 25-year-old male from Pimicikamak Cree Nation, was taken to the nursing station but succumbed to his injuries.

The pedestrian, a 22-year-old male from Pimicikamak Cree Nation, was taken to the nursing station with serious injuries and later transported to a Winnipeg hospital.

The 21-year-old passenger from Pimicikamak Cree Nation suffered minor injuries.

The driver and passenger were not wearing helmets at the time of the collision.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision.

Cross Lake RCMP along with the Criminal Collision Investigation Team and a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
