Cochrane RCMP lay charges after a string crimes by one offender

On Dec. 27, 2020 Cochrane RCMP received reports of a vehicle theft, vehicle break in's and a break and enter in the Springbank area. The quick police response resulted in the recovery of the vehicle, which was linked to three separate offences in the rural area. The Cochrane RCMP Crime Reduction Unit identified, arrested and charged an 18-year-old male of Calgary, Alta.

Jan. 7, 2021 the Cochrane RCMP responded to another vehicle theft where the owner of the truck was dragged a short distance while attempting to stop the thief. With the assistance of the Calgary Police Service, the Cochrane RCMP were able to recover the truck and arrest the same 18-year-old male of Calgary, Alta.

The 18-year-old male is currently facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, mischief, robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and numerous breaches of condition charges with a charge of break and enter and theft pending. He is set to appear in court on Jan. 13, 2021.

"One person or a small group of offenders can cause a lot of issues for a community," says Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of the Cochrane RCMP. "By focussing our efforts on these select few, we can have the greatest impact."
