Cartwright RCMP arrests impaired driver who resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer

A Cartwright woman is facing multiple charges after Cartwright RCMP responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver on the evening of March 22, 2021. Police conducted patrols looking for the driver immediately after receiving the complaint at approximately 7:30 p.m. The vehicle and 49-year-old driver were located a short time later.

She was read an approved screening device demand and refused to provide a breath sample. She was arrested for refusal and then resisted arrest and later assaulted a police officer.

She was charged for impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.

Her licence was suspended and she was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.

RCMP NL continues the enforcement of impaired driving and continues to fulfill its mandate to protect public safety, enforce the law, and ensure the delivery of priority policing services in Newfoundland and Labrador.
