News release

Burin Peninsula RCMP arrested a 38-year-old St. Bernard's man on the long weekend for operating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) while impaired.

Just after 12:00 p.m. on May 22, 2021, police received a report of an ATV driving all over the road. Shortly after, officers located the described ATV and initiated a traffic stop but the driver fled from police. Officers located the ATV a short while later and conducted a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of alcohol impairment, was arrested and transported back to the detachment where he provided breath samples nearly three times the legal limit. The man was issued a driving suspension and the ATV was seized and impounded. He was released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date to answer to charges of flight from police and impaired driving.

RCMP NL continues the enforcement of impaired driving and continues to fulfill its mandate to protect public safety, enforce the law, and ensure the delivery of priority policing services in Newfoundland and Labrador.
