Bay D’Espoir RCMP responds to fatal collision between tractor trailer and SUV

A 67-year-old man is deceased following a collision between a tractor trailer and a SUV on Route 360 that happened on July 23, 2021.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Friday, police received the report of the collision on the Bay D'Espoir Highway, approximately 60 kilometers south of the Trans-Canada Highway. Police, fire and ambulance attended the scene. The investigation found that the transport truck was rounding a turn and entered into the oncoming lane of travel and collided with the SUV. The driver of the SUV died during the collision and a female passenger, who was trapped inside the SUV, was removed by firefighters using the jaws of life. She was transported to the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor with injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening. The driver of the transport truck was not injured.

A Collision Reconstructionist with RCMP Traffic Services Central attended the scene and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was engaged.

The investigation is continuing.
