Annapolis District RCMP charged a man and woman after an incident in Victoria Vale.
On August 12 at approximately 8:50 a.m., police were dispatched to a disturbance on Lily Lake Rd. in Victoria Vale. Police learned that a construction crew was mulching trees in the area when a man had approached the workers and threatened them with a saw. The man proceeded to damage construction equipment.
Upon police arrival, the man was immediately identified and placed under arrest. While attempting to place the man in handcuffs, the man and a police officer fell to the ground. The man then assaulted the officer and began running away. The officer, with help from a second police officer, caught up to the male and guided him to the ground. The man continued to resist arrest and was eventually handcuffed.
While officers were attempting to arrest the man, a woman interjected herself into the situation. The woman spat in an officer's face before brandishing a knife and pointing it at the officers while they were trying to place the man in handcuffs. An officer placed the woman under arrest and repeatedly told her to drop the knife, which she refused to do. The woman then quickly approached the officers while pointing the knife at them. The officer deployed a conducted energy weapon, which was not effective and the woman ran away.
The woman was located a few minutes later and was again advised that she was under arrest. The woman refused to be arrested and was eventually guided to the ground where she was successfully placed in handcuffs.
Both individuals were transported to the Bridgetown RCMP Detachment where they were released on conditions. Both will be facing charges of Assaulting a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. The man is facing additional charges of Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Mischief under $5,000. The woman is facing additional charges of Theft under $5,000 and a second count of Resisting Arrest. Both will appear in Annapolis Royal Provincial Court at a later date.
The investigation is ongoing.
