The New Brunswick RCMP is advising people in the Centennial Park area of Moncton to shelter in place as police investigate a report of shots fired.
On May 13, 2021, around 8:30 a.m., Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in Centennial Park area. Police responded to the scene and determined it to be a credible report. There are no reports of injuries. Access to the park has been closed as police investigate.
"If you are in the Centennial Park area, please lock your doors and stay away from windows," says Cpl. Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP. "Everyone else should avoid the area to allow police to do their work. Do not post information on social media about police locations or operations."
An Alert Ready message was issued for the area at 10:17 a.m. once police were able to confirm enough credible information to share with the public. The RCMP continues to share information on Facebook and Twitter. Additional messages will be issued via Alert Ready as needed.
"Do not call 911 unless you have an emergency, or if you have information specifically related to this investigation," says Cpl. Ouellette. "We need to make sure our phone lines remain available."
