Alberta RCMP creates Diversity Advisory Council with community members

Edmonton, Alberta

News release

Edmonton – Last month, members of the Commanding Officer's Diversity Advisory Council (CODAC) met for their first meeting. Keeping the important topics of diversity and inclusion central to this council, the Alberta RCMP is working to hear more directly from citizens and expand efforts to better serve and meet the needs of all Albertans. CODAC is both a forum to explore and better understand diversity topics in the context of police activities, as well as a partnership to develop initiatives that enhance police relations and communications with the diverse communities and citizens throughout Alberta.

CODAC is comprised of internal Alberta RCMP stakeholders and active members of communities across Alberta who are involved in diversity issues, and who will be able to provide an advisory role on matters related to community policing, diversity and inclusion. Deputy Commissioner Curtis Zablocki will host the meetings along with the Executive Director, Strategy, Business and Innovation, the Executive Officer, District Officers and Commanders throughout Alberta, Community and Indigenous Policing Services, and key members of community who have been selected as advisors to the council. Members of the community advisory panel are: Adam Idris, Sadia Khan, Komal Kardar, Debbonaire Reid, Chevi Rabbit, and Ahmad Ali.

"I was excited to have held the first Commanding Officer's Diversity Advisory Council meeting last month. This is another way we can work with community members to enhance trust with all of the many citizens we serve. The Alberta RCMP will work towards change through meaningful discussions with the Council members who all offer unique perspectives from their communities and experiences. Together, we will collaborate, share and listen."

- Deputy Commissioner Curtis Zablocki, Commanding Officer of the Alberta RCMP.

The next meeting of the Diversity Advisory Council will take place towards the end of March.
