A statement from the RCMP: AMBER Alert

May 21, 2021
Fredericton, New Brunswick

The New Brunswick RCMP would like to provide the following clarification of its role in relation to the AMBER Alert program in the province.

The New Brunswick RCMP has direct access to the Alert Ready system to send messages for critical incidents, including AMBER Alerts. Given the RCMP's capacity and resourcing as the Provincial Police Force, the RCMP will issue AMBER Alerts on behalf of all law enforcement agencies in New Brunswick. The RCMP is always ready to send an AMBER Alert should there be a need.

If it is a file belonging to another police agency in New Brunswick, the police of jurisdiction would contact the RCMP in order to request an AMBER Alert be issued.

In the case of Madison Roy-Boudreau, the New Brunswick RCMP never received a request for an Amber Alert from Bathurst Police Force.

There are specific criteria and policy regarding the use of AMBER Alert to ensure it is used appropriately.

More information about the AMBER Alert program is available on our website.
